Election litir um thoghchán are often personalised letters that candidates send directly to voters. These letters usually contain information on the candidate's policies, reasons for running, and requests for voter support. These letters are part of electioneering efforts and are typically sent out in bulk.
Each candidate in an European election is entitled to send one election letter free of postage to each household in their constituency. When two or more candidates of the same political party stand for election in a constituency, they are limited to one election letter. The cost of this facility is covered by the Exchequer.
